Urban Education Interim First Day

Urban Education Interim made it safely to Chicago on Sunday. We arrived via Amtrak just before 11:00 a.m. We wound our way through Union Station, pausing for a first group picture in front of the clock in the Great Hall of the station. This is truly a magnificent building - huge and ornate. We walked our suitcases just under one half mile to our hostel in Greek Town. The accommodations proved to be ... well ... Spartan. Everyone proved to be a trooper and we settled in well.

We made our way via bus to the Pilsen neighborhood, where we met Professor Stegink's sister and her family for a great, inexpensive Mexican. Great food and great fellowship.

In the afternoon we braved the cold and wind to walk around the Loop, looking at some of the sculptures that grace the downtown area. We also walked through Millenium Park and took a pic near  Cloud Gate, locally known as the "Bean." For supper, we ate pasta and marinara in the hostel. Rousing card games followed supper with an extended play version Phase 10, which lasted nearly five hours.

Today (Monday) we spent the day at Daystar Cgristian School. That was an informative and inspiring visit that we'll write about tomorrow. We've included some pictures of our Sunday journey.

Sounds like folks are getting ready for bed (9:45 p.m.). We're off to visit a Chicago Public School tomorrow.

Take care.
